Save the Ribble plots!
Jeez. Sometimes it takes an outsider to smack you upside the head and wake you up to events on your very own doortsep. Thanks to Jane Perrone, I’ve picked up a link to a major campaign to save some valuable & beautiful allotments in my little old town.
As you leave Preston and cross the bridge towards Penwortham, at the bottom of Fishergate Hill you will see the Penwortham Holme Allotments on your right. As a little kid they were a mystery to me, as an adult they were a familiar and much loved landmark. In recent years they have been both a source of inspiration for my photography course and daydream of plots and vegetables to come. And now I find out that Preston City Council (a right old bunch of dodgy sods and useless idiots - trust me) want to build more bloody houses on them. I live very close and I know how many houses there are around here and how many are being built and it’s ridiculous to suggest we need more - it’s just greedy property developers & self-serving politians, something Preston seems to produce in abundance.
If you live in the Preston area, I strongly urge you to visit the “Save The Ribble” blog and see what you can do to help. Even is you are not from Preston, you still may be able to help, or at the very least learn how to fight for your allotments if you have to. Wish them luck - let’s hope they beat PCC.
